Cáscara Café & Brunch sits quietly on a side street near Santiago de Compostela’s bustling Cathedral and the San Martin de Pinario Monastery, offering a pared-back escape from the crowds typical of this central area. This small café balances the energy of a vibrant city center with a surprisingly calm and relaxed atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for those seeking a break from sightseeing or a low-key meeting place.

Known for specialty coffee, the café draws in both locals and travelers who appreciate a carefully crafted flat white or a well-explained espresso origin story. The espresso bar vibe is casual yet attentive, with baristas engaging visitors in conversations about the coffee’s flavor notes. For many, it’s the kind of place where a solo visitor can linger comfortably over their cup while the gentle hum of nearby street life filters in.

Outdoor seating lines the street, capturing enough sunlight without the overwhelming noise of busier plazas. This area feels inviting on sunny mornings or early afternoons, offering a fresh breeze and a window into daily local life. The interior, though modest in size, carries a cozy and clean design aesthetic that keeps the space feeling fresh and uncluttered—though larger groups might find it a tight fit.

The food here leans into wholesome, fresh ingredients with a good variety of options for different diets, including vegan and vegetarian choices. The kitchen shows flexibility, happily adapting dishes to suit dietary needs beyond what’s printed on the menu. Light lunches and brunch items stand out as more than just convenient snacks; they come across as thoughtfully prepared, from delicate homemade cakes topped with seasonal fruits to savory plates like eggs Benedict that feel substantial yet refined.

Service tends to be warm and genuine, taking time to make each guest feel attended to without rushing. This makes Cáscara a comfortable spot for those who might be recovering from a long walk around the historic city or the Camino trail, as well as locals looking for a reliable café to start their day or enjoy a quiet midday break.

Overall, Cáscara Café & Brunch fits neatly into the fabric of Santiago’s central neighborhood, appealing to coffee lovers and brunch seekers alike who want to escape the more hectic city center scene without walking far. It’s especially suited to individuals or pairs who value a personable touch and a peaceful spot rather than a large bustling brunch venue.

Was delighted to find a little cafe that does specialty coffee - flat white was delicious. We also had lunch and that was great too. Staff super friendly and even though it was very central it had a much more quiet and relaxed atmosphere than some other cafes/restaurants we looked at.

Oh wow, after a month on the Camino trail this was beyond a treat. First, the service was incredible, the owners are kind, genuine and attentive! Second, the food. INCREDIBLE, the best I had in the whole Camino. I had a homemade cake with orange & raspberries and the eggs Benedict were some of the best I’ve ever had. Fresh, high quality ingredients made with love & attention. I mean this is heaven for me The ambience is also so inviting & comforting. Thank you Andy & Judith for creating this little haven of magic. I look forward to coming back at the end of each Camino. I highly recommend! Great for vegetarians too

Tasty Galician gluten free sandwich with attentive service. The eatery is well decorated & clean too. They have a large outdoor street side seating areas on a super location, on a side street but very close to the Cathedral & San Martin de Pinario Monastery. The green radiance drink full of greens was refreshing but had 2 very big ice cubes inside which was excessive & unnecessary.

Found this spot in Santiago wandering for a heartier breakfast than pastries could give me. It was excellent. Ordered the toast and an iced caramel latte. The barista even explained the coffee origin and notes. Four stars on atmosphere only because it’s a small space and may not be great for groups of 4+.

In the heart of Santiago, this small but cozy café quickly became a favorite. I visited a few times and always found a warm, friendly atmosphere. The coffee is excellent, and the menu includes a few vegan options. I recommend the coco porridge! The best part is their flexibility; they were happy to adapt dishes for me even if they weren’t listed as vegan in the menu. For example, they made the granola with coconut yogurt, agave, and peanut butter (instead of the usual yogurt and honey), and even prepared a vegan wrap. Definitely a place worth trying.

This little gem is definitely one of the best places in Santiago. Their coffee is wonderful, served with a big smile and an explanation about the beens and roast. Very cozy inside or you can sit on the terrace. Very central but still quiet. I would give 6 stars if it was possible.

After a long, sleepless journey across half the globe, I arrived in Santiago de Compostela running on fumes—and craving a good breakfast. Café Cascara delivered. The staff were fast, friendly, and seemed to specialize in rescuing tired travelers. I had gluten-free toast with avocado, tomato, and black sesame (basically brunch runway-ready), plus Huevos Nórdicos with salmon—flavorful, well-prepared, and entirely gluten- and lactose-free. My gut was thrilled. Washed it down with a matcha latte with oat milk. Solid 7/10—good, not top-tier, but did the job. (Yes, I’m a matcha snob.) Bottom line: Café Cascara is a great spot for a tasty, allergy-friendly breakfast or brunch—with enough charm to make you forget the red-eye flight that got you there.
